If we must cancel the outdoor triathlon due to air quality, in this particular instance, we will offer a refund, or a transfer of registration to a future event for the same dollar amount. Fingers crossed the air clears.
Triathlon is back in Yellowknife
What: Sprint triathlon and try-a-tri distances at Fred Henne Territorial Park
Try-a-tri: 375m swim, 10k bike, 2.5k run
Sprint: 750 m swim, 20k bike, 5k run
Olympic: 1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run
Kids: 50m beach swim, 2 km bike, 500 m run
Tots: a quick splash in the water along the shore, followed by a short toddler bike course (any form of wheels!) and a short run in the Day Use Area
When: Sunday August 6th 2023
Race schedule to be announced. We are still planning out the longer distance. Please note that OLYMPIC DISTANCE will start first, and start early so all finishers can finish together (approx).
Where: Fred Henne Territorial Park
Race headquarters at the Day-Use area parking lot.
Transition area at the parking lot.
Swim on the beach by the boat launch.
COMPLETION OF THE SWIM IS NOT MANDATORY: For those that want to try out an open water triathlon, please note that this is a fun event, and you are not required to complete the swim if you are feeling apprehensive about the swim leg. Do as much or as little as you’d like and then continue with the bike leg.
YK Multisport club will be hosting this year’s Yellowknife Sprint Triathlon and Try-a-tri at Fred Henne Park. Start with an open water swim at Long Lake, bike course will be on Highway 3 and the run course on Highway 3 and Ingraham Trail.

Sunday Aug 6th
Olympic Distance:
6:30am – 7:00am: Olympic sign-in
7:15am: Course briefing at the day use area dock.
7:30am: Olympic START
Sprint and Try-a-Tri:
9:00am-9:30am : Try-a-Tri and Sprint distance sign-in
9:40 am : Course and briefing by the day use area dock.
9:45 am : Try-a-Tri and Sprint START.
Kids and Toddlers:
9:45 am-10:15am : Toddler registration and kids sign-in (down by the Day Use Area Beach)
10:20 am: Kids and toddler briefing by the day use area beach. This is where parents hear about the course and cheer on the kids.
10:30 am: Kids and toddler event START
