Overlander Sports Marathon – 2024

POSSIBLE SMOKE AND AIR QUALITY UPDATE

We are keeping an eye on the smoke and air quality for this week. The extended forecasts unfortunately cannot be trusted, so we will just have to see what the air quality will be come the weekend. We need to consider everyone’s health and wellbeing and we would never subject anyone to running in the smoke. We are considering racers as well as any volunteers. Please keep an eye on your email as well as this page for an update closer to the weekend. For any out-of-town, out-of-territory, or out-of-country visiting racers, please note that it is difficult to make a call with advanced notice. It is highly likely there will be smoke come the weekend. Due to limitations in our insurance provisions, we need to take all factors into consideration when hosting an event. Regardless of the outcome, the Yellowknife Multisport Club is committed to donating a large portion of race proceeds to the Arctic Indigenous Wellness Foundation and even when an event is cancelled, all race expenses still apply, so we are unable to offer refunds in the case of an event cancellation. We thank you for your understanding.

Course

We are sorry for the delay in posting the course. There is ongoing construction around the new aquatic centre and as such, the trail is closed for certain periods of time. We have information that says it will be open by race day, so fingers crossed.

The 10.56km course is the airport loop (running counter-clockwise). As you leave Overlander sports, you will exit the parking lot and cross the road to do a loop around the JTFN building. As you approach the ceremonial circle, turn right towards the Museum and Ledge. Do a loop around Leg loop and turn left onto the highway. Please run against traffic on the left hand side of the road. Please obey all traffic laws as this is an open road course and no closures will be made. As you approach Bristol pits, you can cut across the parking area. Continue until McDonalds and turn left to enter the Frame Lake trail. You will run until Matonabee and turn right and join up with Franklin and then turn back towards Sǫ̀mba K’è. As you approach the RCMP building, continue to the side alley entrance to the back of the Overlander parking lot.

1/4 Marathon = 1 loop (10.56km)
1/2 Marathon = 2 loops (21.1km)
3/4 Marathon = 3 loops (31.68km)
Full Marathon = 4 loops (42.2km)

There will be an aid station at the parking lot opposite the road from Co-op.
Depending on volunteers, we may have another aid station at the parking lot by the ‘Welcome to Yellowknife’ sign.

There will be rest room access at Overlander Sports.
