Welcome to the Yellowknife Overlander Sports Marathon

This is one of our biggest events of the year, with participants from across the Northwest Territories, Canada, and North America. The Yellowknife Overlander Sports Marathon, Half-Marathon, Relay and 10km Walk will be held on Sunday August 12, 2012.
Registration
Registration for the 2012 Yellowknife Marathon is not yet open.
Friday, August 10, 2012
Last day to register. Registration closes at 8 pm PST.
Saturday, August 11th, 2012
Friendship Run- 3 km Fun Walk/Run for friends and families
- Starts at 9:30 am at the Ceremonial Circle
- All ages and abilities are welcome, runners are encouraged to bring their kids, friends, and family!
- Drinks will be available after the event.
- No race-day pick-up
- Noon to 5 pm at Overlander Sports (4909, 50th Street, Yellowknife)

- Boston Pizza Lounge at 6 pm
- Coupons will be available at the race package pick-up, and are required for admission
- Dinner must be ordered between 6 and 7:30pm
- Additional tickets can be purchased for $10 when you pick up your race package (bring your support team along for supper!!)

Race Day! Event starts at Overlander Sports.
- Please arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 for full marathon
- Please arrive between 8:20 and 8:45 for half marathon and 10km walk/run
- Marathon starts at 8:00 am, pre-race announcements at 7:50, warm-up at 7:55
- Half-marathon starts at 9:00 am, pre-race announcements at 8:50, warm-up at 8:55
- 10 km Run/Walk starts at 9:00 am, pre-race announcements at 8:50, warm-up at 8:55
- Post race pizza arrives at 11:15 & 12:00
- Awards ceremony at 12:30
- Please park on the street nearby, there will be no on-site parking
The Course
The usual course for the full marathon is a Figure 8 course through Yellowknife and surrounding area concentrates volunteer efforts to ensure that participants have an excellent race day experience. The course will be marked and marshalled. Run by Yellowknife Bay, Back Bay and historic areas of Yellowknife. There will be Aid stations, race marshals, race signage, restrooms and spectator support along the route. Marathon and Marathon Relay participants will complete 2 laps of the course, Half-Marathon participants will complete 1 lap, 10km Walk participants will complete 1 lap of a 10.55 km loop. Aid Stations
There will be six aid stations over the 21.1 km figure-8 loop, with volunteers at each, refreshments, and communication to request emergency assistance. Aid stations will be located at:
- Old Town Station corner of Otto Dr. and Hearne Hill Rd – by the park –
- Fraser Tower Station –across the street in the open space by the park or alley
- Pool corner Station parking lot, relatively close to road
- Corner of Hwy 3 and Old airport Road Station –gravel lot near start of trail
- Videoland Station on street near lights
- Overlander Sports – in the parking lot
Portable toilets at three locations on the 21.1km figure-8 loop, at:
- Overlander Sports
- School Draw and Franklin intersection in parking lot
- Bristol pits parking lot
Race Announcements:
- Participants should practice self-preservation and obey all rules of the road.
- Be respectful to others using trails.
- Run against the traffic, unless you are marshaled to do otherwise
- Thank the volunteers when you see them out on the course, without them, there wouldn’t be a race!
- Make sure to keep your number visible, if the timers don’t get your number, you won’t get a time.
- Remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
