FAQ

Q. I can easily cycle 500 km but I am slow. Can I mix cycling/driving to keep up?
A. Yes. You can mix cycle/drive as you wish.

Q. Can I get help if I have a bike problem during the ride?
A. You are expected to be self-sufficient. The volunteers will be glad to assist you but they are not trained bike mechanics.

Q. Can I pack and cook my own meals; I have allergies.
A. Yes.

Q. What’s the weather going to be like?
A. Expect to be bake, rained, snowed and sleeted on. We have seen them all on previous YK2HR.

Q. How fast do I have to cycle during the YK2HR?
A. You must be able to ride at an average speed of 20 km/hour. A sweeper truck has the discretion to pick up slow riders for safety reasons.

Q. I cannot get Friday off from work. Can I still join the ride?
A. Yes. You’ll need to drive out and meet us at km 182.

Q. We are a family of 4. My spouse and I are willing to share the cycling and childcare. Can we ride?
A. Yes. This is a family-friendly event.

Q. I am not bringing a vehicle. How do I get home?
A. You will need to find another rider to car pool.

Q. I am bringing a vehicle. How do I manage?
A. Bring a friend to drive or attend the Mandatory Safety meeting to find a buddy.

Q. Why does this event cost $150?
A. Your fees cover food and gas reimbursement for volunteers.

Q. Is this ride a daily, non-stop, 12-hour grunt?
A. No. There will be rest stops every 30 kilometers or so, plus lunch.

Q. Do I have to attend the Mandatory Safety meeting?
A. It is mandatory.

Q. I have a mountain bike – is that suitable for the ride?
A. A road bike is ideal. A mountain bike is not efficient for the YK2HR, unless you are a VERY strong cyclist.

Q. I have other questions.
A. Email Andy at andywong@yel.mackay.ca or 765 4402.

Volunteers Needed

We are always grateful for volunteers who make the event possible. To volunteer, please email andywong@yel.mackay.ca. Volunteers who bring their vehicle will be reimbursed $250 for gas. We are also looking for volunteers to help cook the YK2HR suppers at 5 p.m., Sunday, June 2. Location isTBA.
